Your serial number consists out of the following items:
Model - tells which production or version the engine is.
Prefix - tells the production year and the number of the engine.

Area.
Outboards also are different for the various areas.
As you can imagine, an outboard needs more cooling in the tropical area than in the artic area. There fore some models have small changes.
